If you haven’t already seen Food Inc., you must. As obesity rates continue to grow in the United States, one must speculate the underlying forces behind the matter. Our food industry has fell victim of monster institutions that control every facet from the seed to the store. Our capitalistic society and thirst for money fuels these corporations to maximize efficiency, which in turn maximizes profits. Many moral boundaries are crossed to reduce costs and produce more food.

The Rationalization of Soceity and it’s Food is trapped and to battle this behemoth we must all become sociological mindful of our actions and what is going on around us. Not only are we harming our bodies but the closed-door process of mass-producing our food is disgusting. These corporations are murdering hundreds of thousands of pigs, cows, and chickens a day to meet the demand of premier clients, such as McDonald’s.

We can argue all day about whether eating animals is morally sound, but what currently is going on is murder. I would highly recommend reading Arnold Arluke’s Regarding Animals to get a fresh perspective on this issue.

It seems organic foods are actually getting a substantial portion of the food market again, but unless we all pull together and ‘think’ before we ‘eat’… I fear gravely for our country.
